South Regional Bowling Championships Wrap Up at Vestavia Bowl

Thompson, Horseshoe Bend, Vestavia Hills, and UMS-Wright Secure Top Seeds 

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL – The AHSAA 2025 South Region Bowling Championships came to an exciting conclusion Tuesday at Vestavia Bowl, where standout performances determined the top seeds for next week’s AHSAA State Bowling Championships in Mobile. 

Girls’ Competition 

Thompson High School claimed the No. 1 seed in the Class 6A/7A girls’ division with an 83-pin win over Hoover High School in the winners’ bracket finals. Thompson totaled 1,288 pins, led by Emma Roberson’s standout 213 traditional round. Hoover, paced by Josie Dambrino’s 200 in the traditional round, secured the No. 2 seed with a 1,104-964 victory over Stanhope Elmore in the consolation finals.

Horseshoe Bend High School emerged as the top seed in Class 1A/5A, defeating Marbury High School by 50 pins in the winners’ bracket finals. Addy Walton led Horseshoe Bend with a 187 in the traditional round, while Allie Higgins contributed a 151. Marbury rallied to secure the No. 2 seed with a 1,151-1,113 consolation win over Orange Beach, powered by Alaine Rhodes’s impressive 223 traditional round. Orange Beach claimed the third seed with a narrow 1,153-902 win against Sipsey Valley in the fourth round. Sipsey Valley secured the No. 4 state tournament spot. 

Boys’ Competition 

Vestavia Hills High School (27-1) edged Thompson High School (14-4) in a thrilling Class 6A/7A winners’ bracket final. The Rebels set a state record for dual-match Baker format with a total of 3,217 pins. Davidson Smith rolled 233, and Carson Gentry added 210 to lead Vestavia. Ryan Lloyd of Thompson achieved the highest traditional round score with a 254, followed by Joshua Adelberg’s 246. Vestavia Hills secured the top seed with a narrow Baker match victory, winning games one (222-220) and three (215-187). Thompson took the second game 196-181. 

Thompson defeated Stanhope Elmore 1,605-1,317 in the consolation finals to secure the No. 2 seed. Stanhope Elmore earned the third seed, while Dothan High School took the No. 4 spot. 

In Class 1A/5A, UMS-Wright (15-0) triumphed over Elberta (16-1) in the boys’ winners’ bracket final by just 39 pins, posting a team total of 1,248 compared to Elberta’s 1,209. UMS-Wright swept the Baker games, including a crucial 201-136 second game. Harris Dunlavy led Elberta with a 189 traditional round, while Matthew Monson paced UMS-Wright with a 154.

Beauregard claimed the No. 2 seed by defeating Mobile Christian and Elberta in the consolation bracket. Elberta earned the third seed, with Mobile Christian rounding out the top four. 

State championships roll into Mobile

The top seeds are ready to advance to next week’s AHSAA State Bowling Championships, scheduled for January 29-30 at Bowlero Bowling Center in Mobile. Exciting battles and impressive performances are guaranteed as teams from across Alabama compete for state titles.
