Hoover and Scottsboro Girls Advance to AHSAA State Bowling Finals
MOBILE, AL – The AHSAA State Bowling Championships are heating up at Mobile’s Bowlero Bowling Center. On Monday, Hoover High School and Scottsboro Girls secured their spots in the championship matches, which will be held Tuesday at noon.
Hoover Advances in Class 6A/7A Division
Hoover (15-2) edged out Thompson (14-2) in round three of the winners’ bracket, clinching their place in the championship match. The Buccaneers won three matches on Monday, including a narrow 25-pin victory over the Warriors in the winners’ bracket final.
Hoover’s standout, Paige Lunsford, scored a team-high 171 in the traditional round. Despite trailing Thompson by 10 pins after the traditional round, Hoover swept all three Baker format games, sealing the win with a second game score of 182-164.
Thompson’s Sophie Leonard impressed with a 193 in the traditional round and still has a shot at the finals. The Warriors will face the winner of the consolation match between Southside (22-2) and James Clemens (19-3), scheduled for Tuesday at 1 p.m.
Scottsboro Dominates in Class 1A/5A Girls Division
Scottsboro (15-1) cruised through their match against Horseshoe Bend (15-3) in the winners’ bracket of the Class 1A/5A division. The Wildcats swept all three Baker games and posted a pin count of 678-610 in the traditional round.
Surina Patel and Sydney Moore led Scottsboro with traditional round scores of 170 and 151, respectively, while Addy Walton of Horseshoe Bend scored a 172.
Horseshoe Bend now moves to the consolation finals, where they will face the winner of the match between Orange Beach (15-3) and Indian Springs (11-3) at 1 p.m. Tuesday.
Top Performers from Monday
- Bella Perkins of Southside rolled Monday’s high score in Class 6A/7A with a stellar 225.
- Josie Dambrino of Hoover followed closely with 223, while Sophie Leonard of Thompson recorded a 218.
- Addy Walton of Horseshoe Bend led Class 1A/5A with a 204. Orange Beach’s Abby Oldman posted a 198, and Kailyn Garner from Sipsey Valley rolled a 194.

Both championship matches will be live-streamed on the NFHS Network.
