Scottsboro and Thompson Girls Claim AHSAA State Bowling Titles

MOBILE, AL – The AHSAA State Girls’ Bowling Championships wrapped up Tuesday at Bowlero Lanes in Mobile, where Scottsboro High School claimed the Class 1A/5A title and Thompson High School triumphed in Class 6A/7A.

Scottsboro Dominates for First Girls’ State Bowling Title

Scottsboro (16-1), coached by Mathew Brewer, cruised to its first-ever state bowling championship with an unbeaten 4-0 record. The Wildcats posted a commanding 194-pin win over Orange Beach (17-4) in the championship match.

The Wildcats gained an early advantage in the finals with an 83-pin lead after the traditional round, fueled by standout performances from Grace Anderton (224), Sydney Moore (189), and Surina Patel (163). Anderton’s 224 was the highest single round in the 1A/5A tournament.

Orange Beach’s Addy Oldman (190) and Daigle Wilson (171) led a strong effort for the Makos, but Scottsboro swept all three Baker rounds to secure the title.

The Makos, coached by Phil Clemons, reached the finals after defeating Indian Springs 1,228-1,128 and Horseshoe Bend (15-5) 1,200-1,091 in Tuesday’s consolation bracket. Miley Kate McMullan led Orange Beach with a 159 in the traditional round, while Horseshoe Bend’s Addy Walton recorded a 142.

Thompson Mounts Comeback to Claim 6A/7A Championship

Thompson High School captured its first-ever state bowling championship in dramatic fashion. After falling to Hoover in Monday’s winners’ bracket finals, Coach Michael Craycraft’s Warriors battled back through the consolation bracket to defeat Hoover twice on Tuesday.

Thompson started the day with a dominant 1,516-1,184 victory over James Clemens in the consolation finals. Emma Roberson rolled a 245 in the traditional round—tied for the highest single round of the 6A/7A competition. Rebekah Wagner led James Clemens with a 230 and also recorded a 245 earlier in the day during the Jets’ win over Southside (22-3).

Thompson then edged Hoover 1,192-1,169 in the first championship match, forcing a decisive “if” match in the double-elimination format. The Warriors clinched the title with a 1,279-1,141 victory, highlighted by Roberson’s 214 in the traditional round and Amil Smith’s clutch 173 finish.

Hoover’s Josie Dambrino rolled a 184 in the final, while the Bucs (15-3), coached by Dakota Daniel, advanced to the championship match after topping Thompson in Monday’s winners’ bracket finals.
