Matt Patterson Steps Down as Buckhorn Head Football Coach

NEW MARKET, AL – Matt Patterson has officially stepped down as the Buckhorn Bucks head football coach after four seasons at the helm of the Tennessee Valley program . During his tenure, the Arab native guided the Bucs to a 20-23 record and three consecutive playoff appearances. 

Under Patterson’s leadership, Buckhorn achieved back-to-back 6-5 records in his final two seasons, marking the program’s first winning campaign since finishing 6-5 in 2015.

Before taking over the Buckhorn program in 2021, the University of West Alabama alum served as an assistant at Madison Academy for one season. Earlier in his career he spent six seasons as the offensive coordinator at Class 7A Bob Jones.  

Patterson comes from a family deeply rooted in Alabama high school football. He is the son of legendary Arab Arabian Knights head coach Larry “Pod” Patterson and the brother of Wes Patterson, the current head coach at Susan Moore. 

Patterson concludes his time at Buckhorn as only the second head coach in the program’s 63-year history to lead the Bucs to three consecutive playoff berths.
