Mario White Named Carver-Montgomery’s 18th Head Football Coach
MONTGOMERY, AL – Mario White has been named the 18th head football coach of the Carver-Montgomery Wolverines. The announcement was made Tuesday night in the Capital City.
A native of Holt, Alabama, White is an alum of Tuscaloosa Academy, where his coaching career began. During his time at his alma mater, he worked with junior varsity and peewee teams and assisted with strength and conditioning programs. White expanded his coaching expertise at the collegiate level, spending a year learning under Scott Cochran as part of the University of Alabama’s elite strength and conditioning program.
White’s first head coaching role came in 2020 at Troy’s Pike Liberal Arts School. He quickly turned the Patriots’ fortunes around, improving their record from 3-8 in 2019 to a stellar 10-2 season in 2020. Under his leadership, the Patriots secured the AISA-AAA state championship. Pike Lib continued to thrive in 2021, beginning the season with a 10-1 record before White stepped down just before their semifinal game. The team, led by interim coach Rush Hixon, went on to win another state title that year.

White briefly stepped away from football to pursue other ventures, earning his real estate license. However, his passion for coaching brought him back to the sidelines. He joined Charles Henderson Middle School as an assistant under Fred Burton and later served as offensive and defensive scout team coordinator at Pike County High School in 2024 under coach Mark Hurt.
White now takes over a Carver-Montgomery program rich in history, boasting five state championships and 18 region titles. The Wolverines finished the 2024 season with a respectable 6-3 record in the challenging Class 7A, Region 2, narrowly missing the playoffs.
White takes over for former Carver head coach Bobby Carr who stepped down following his lone season at the helm of the Wolverines program to accept the top job at Prattville.
