Eric Scott Officially Named Baker Hornets Head Football Coach
MOBILE, AL – Eric Scott has officially been named the 20th head football coach of the Baker High School Hornets. The Mobile program officially removed the interim tag from Scott Friday morning.
Scott takes over the position following Juan Johnson’s departure after one season at the helm of the Class 7A program. Johnson stepped down following the 2024 season to accept the head coaching position at Madison’s James Clemens High School.
Scott has played a crucial role on Baker’s coaching staff for the past four seasons, serving as the Hornet’s defensive coordinator during his tenure.
“We’ve had the privilege of working with Coach Scott over the past four years,” Baker administration shared in an official statement. “Eric has been an integral part of our football program and its recent success. He has fostered meaningful relationships with our athletes, and this dedication reflects in both the team’s performance on the field and their achievements in the classroom.”
During the 2024 season under Johnson, Baker recorded an impressive 9-3 record, including a thrilling double overtime win over Hewitt-Trussville in the first round of Class 7A postseason. The Hornets season came to a close with a tough road loss at Enterprise in the quarterfinals.

From 2008 to 2010 he served as the head coach at B.C. Rain where he led the Class 4A Red Raiders to a combined 10-20 record over three seasons.
