Central-Phenix City’s Gerritt Griggs Named First MaxPreps Flag Football Player of the Year

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Central-Phenix City standout Gerritt Griggs has earned the honor of being named MaxPreps’ inaugural Alabama Flag Football Player of the Year.. The announcement, made Wednesday night, highlights a historic recognition for the sport.

Griggs played a pivotal role in leading Central-Phenix City to the Class 6A/7A state championship and securing a national title through the NFL Flag final poll. Earlier this year, she was also recognized as AL.com’s Miss Football, adding another prestigious accolade to her career.

Her stats for the season were nothing short of remarkable. Griggs completed 69% of her passes (217-for-315), amassing 3,284 passing yards and an astounding 82 touchdowns with just three interceptions. On the ground, she rushed for 471 yards and scored 13 touchdowns, while also catching seven passes for 140 yards and two receiving touchdowns.

She capped her prep career in impressive fashion, completing 14-of-19 passes for 253 yards and six touchdowns, while adding 38 rushing yards on four carries during the Red Devils’ 2024 AHSAA Class 6A/7A state championship game victory over Spain Park, earning title game MVP honors.  

Griggs, a University of Alabama softball signee, continues to excel as a multi-sport athlete, cementing her legacy as one of the most dynamic athletes in Alabama high school sports.
