Pearce Boone Leads Providence Christian Boys to Class 2A State Title

BIRMINGHAM, AL – Pearce Boone delivered a standout performance to guide Providence Christian School to its first-ever AHSAA Class 2A boys’ basketball state championship with an 89-61 victory over Tuscaloosa Academy on Friday in the Magic City.

The 6-foot-5 senior scored 37 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished three assists, and contributed two steals and two blocked shots. Boone’s breakout performance included four 3-pointers in the first half and earned him the tournament MVP honors.

Head coach Mark Wright’s Providence Christian Eagles capped their championship season at 29-2.

Boone’s older brother, Cas, added 13 points, including three 3-pointers, and earned a spot on the Class 2A All-State Tournament Team.

“We’ve been encouraging Pearce to take more shots and seize opportunities,” Wright said. “Tonight, he came out aggressive from the start. It was just unbelievable. I’m so proud of him and the entire team.”

Providence Christian dominated from the opening tip, shooting 17-of-32 from the field, 6-of-11 from the 3-point line, and a perfect 9-of-9 at the charity stripe. Boone led the first-half scoring with 24 points, helping the Eagles to a 49-29 halftime advantage. By the end of the third quarter, the lead ballooned to 30 points and briefly reached 33 in the fourth.

“Probably the best game we’ve played all year, and it couldn’t have come at a better time,” Wright added.

Tuscaloosa Academy head coach Luke Hutcheson acknowledged Boone’s exceptional effort. “No. 12 played as good a game as you can play. We tried everything defensively, but he just kept making shots,” Hutcheson said.

Henry Parsons and Luke Strickland added eight points each to support the Eagles’ championship effort.

The victory marked a lifelong dream for the Boone brothers. Reflecting on his younger sibling’s game, Cas Boone said, “This is the first time many have seen this, but I’ve been watching it my entire life. Pearce is an outstanding athlete and a lot better than me. I’m just glad I’m on his team.”

For Tuscaloosa Academy, Danilo Stojakovic stood out with 21 points—surpassing 1,000 career points in the game—along with six assists, five rebounds, and two steals. Matthew Atkins contributed 14 points and seven rebounds, while Ellis Hamiter added 10 points and four assists.
