Carver-Montgomery Sprinter Maurice Conner Excels at Mobile Challenge of Champions

MONTGOMERY, AL – Carver-Montgomery’s Maurice Conner sprinted into this week’s AHSAA Outdoor Track Spotlight.Conner clocked a wind-aided 10.44 seconds to win the 100 meters at the Mobile Challenge of Champions, setting a personal record and recording the fastest time by an Alabama high school sprinter this season. Conner also anchored Carver’s 4×100-meter relay team, which also won and set a state-best time of 41.17 seconds.

“There are a lot of fast guys in the state, and I’m ready for the competition,” Conner told AL.com on Saturday. “We had a personal record in the 4×100, and coming off that, I was satisfied with the (100-meter) time.”

On the girls’ side, James Clemens senior Zaria Parker and St. Paul’s Episcopal senior Janie Ford delivered big performances this week.

Parker won the 100 meters in 11.76 seconds and won the 200 meters in a season-best 24.31 seconds at the Don Heidon Invitational in Muscle Shoals.

Ford won the 100 meters in a wind-aided 11.68 seconds, the fastest time for an Alabama female sprinter this season, at the Mobile Challenge of Champions. Ford also won the 100-meter hurdles in 14.50 seconds, won the long jump with a leap of 18 feet, 6¾ inches, and anchored the Saints’ 4×100-meter relay team that set a school record of 47.68 seconds. She was named the meet’s Outstanding Female Performer.

The 2025 outdoor track and field season is entering its final weeks, with sectional meets scheduled for April 25-26 and state meets in Gulf Shores and Cullman set for early May.

GIRLS

ANNIE KERR, MOUNTAIN BROOK: Set a personal outdoor record by clearing 13 feet, 6 inches in the pole vault at the OR Legends Invitational in Oak Ridge (TN). It’s the best outdoor pole vault by a female Alabama athlete this season. She cleared 13-09 in the indoor season.

BRIANNA STEPHENS, LEE-HUNTSVILLE: Won the triple jump (37 feet, 6½ inches), high jump (5 feet, 4 inches) and long jump (17 feet, 11½ inches) at the Bob Jones Invitational in Madison.

ROSE BETTS, BREWER: Clocked 5:05.14 to win the 1,600 meters at the Scottsboro Invitational.

BANKS BRADFORD, SCOTTSBORO: Finished second in the 1,600 meters at the Scottsboro Invitational with a time of 5:10.64.

EMMA BROOKE LEVERING, HOMEWOOD: Clocked 5:13.82 to win the 1,600 meters at the Spain Park Classic in Hoover.

HAYLEI MASON, MONTGOMERY CATHOLIC: Clocked 14.81 seconds to win the 100-meter hurdles at the Wildcat Invitational in Enterprise and also won the 300-meter hurdles in 45.90 seconds.

MYLA REED, BAKER: Ran second in the 100 meters at the Mobile Challenge of Champions with a time of 11.74 second, and she ran third in the 200 meters with a time of 24.84 seconds.

LAYLA STRAW, ENTERPRISE: Won the 100 meters (11.80 seconds) and 200 meters (24.82 seconds) at the Wildcat Invitational in Enterprise.

ERHIHANA JOHNSON, JAMES CLEMENS: Ran second in the 100 meters (12.00 seconds) and third in the 200 meters (44.60 seconds) at the Don Heidon Invitational.

KYRA CASEY, HAMILTON: Clocked 12.11 seconds to win the 100 meters at the Mike Spann Invitational in Winfield.

LONDON HALL, JAMES CLEMENS: Ran third in the 100 meters (12.16 seconds) and second in the 200 meters (24.47 seconds) at the Don Heidon Invitational.

JAZIYA WATKINS, ENTERPRISE: Ran second in the 100 meters at the Wildcat Invitational with a time of 12.23 seconds.

ALIEAH NELMS, OPELIKA: Won the 200 meters at the Prostate Invitational in Phenix City with a time of 24.60 seconds.

EVA ARMSTED, HATTON: Won the 400 meters at the Don Heidon Invitational with a time of 57.04 seconds.

MIA DUNAVANT, CHELSEA: Clocked 2:19.35 to win the 800 meters at the Spain Park Classic.

MARY DURHAM, HEWITT-TRUSSVILLE: Won the 800 meters with a time of 2:19.56 at the Archer Invitational in Lawrenceville, Ga.

CAROLINE COUEY, OPELIKA: Won the 800 meters at the Prostate Invitational with a time of 2:19.66.

KENDALL BROWN, BAKER: Won the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, 10 inches, and finished second in the long jump at the Mobile Challenge of Champions with a leap of 18 feet, ½ inch.

BENIYIA HARRIS, CENTRAL-TUSCALOOSA: Won the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 8¼ inches at the King of the West meet in Tuscaloosa.

KALAH CHRISTOPHER, BOB JONES: Finished second in the long jump at the Bob Jones Invitational with a leap of 17 feet, 10½ inches.

J’DA WILLIAMS, ATHENS: Won the long jump at the Don Heidon Invitational with a leap of 17 feet, 9 inches.

JESSI RILEY, HAZEL GREEN: Finished third in the long jump at the Bob Jones Invitational with a leap of 17 feet, 7¼ inches.

JAMESHA HOWARD, ENTERPRISE: Won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 7 inches at the Wildcat Invitational.

COOPER GARRETT, FORT PAYNE: Won the javelin with a throw of 131 feet, 7 inches at the Pirate Invitational in Boaz.

CAROLINE DAWSON, SCOTTSBORO: Won the javelin at the Scottsboro Invitational with a throw of 128 feet, 10 inches.

MACEY DENTON, GOOD HOPE: Won the javelin at the Don Heidon Invitational with a throw of 123 feet, 6 inches.

ARMANI THOMAS, LAUDERDALE COUNTY: Finished second in the javelin at the Don Heidon Invitational with a throw of 121 feet, 3 inches.

EMMA KATE DICKEY, NORTHRIDGE: Won the javelin with a throw of 120 feet, 3 inches at the King of the West meet in Tuscaloosa.

TRINITY MILLIGAN, JAMES CLEMENS: Won the triple jump at the Don Heidon Invitational with a leap of 38 feet, 1½ inches.

ELLA GUNNELS, LAMAR COUNTY: Won the triple jump with a leap of 36 feet, 2 inches at the Mike Spann Invitational in Winfield.

MAR’RICA TRONE, CENTRAL-TUSCALOOSA: Won the shot put at the Mobile Challenge of Champions with a throw of 41 feet, 5¾ inches.

CHLOE WARREN, HOMEWOOD: Won the shot put at the Spain Park Classic with a throw of 38 feet, 4 inches.

KI’MORRA MOORE, CENTRAL-TUSCALOOSA: Finished second in the shot put at the Mobile Challenge of Champions with a throw of 38 feet, 2½ inches.

JAMYA GOODLOE, DESHLER: Threw the shot put 37 feet, 8 inches to win the event at the Don Heidon Invitational.

FELICITY BUSCH, SPANISH FORT: Finished fourth in the shot put at the Mobile Challenge of Champions with a throw of 37 feet, 8 inches.

BOYS

ZATHIAN WEBSTER, BOB JONES: Clocked 21.88 to win the 200 meters and won the 400 meters with a time of 48.25 seconds at the Bob Jones Invitational.

CALEB PRICE, FLORENCE: Won the 1,600 meters at the Bob Jones Invitational with a time of 4:21.51 and also won the 800 meters in 1:57.34.

JACK STUBBS, VESTAVIA HILLS: Clocked 10.59 seconds to win the 100 meters at the Spain Park Classic in Hoover and also won the 200 meters in 21.39 seconds.

MAXIMILIAN JOHNSON, CENTRAL-PHENIX CITY: Won the 100 meters (10.59 seconds) and 200 meters (21.61 seconds) at the Prostate Invitational in Phenix City.

TY WATKINS, FAIRHOPE: Clocked 10.62 seconds to finish second on the 100 meters and won the 200 meters in 20.87 seconds the Mobile Challenge of Champions in Mobile.

TYRONE CLARY JR., WETUMPKA: Cleared 6 feet, 6 inches to win the high jump at the King of the East meet.

ISHMEL BETHEL, PIEDMONT: Won the high jump by clearing 6 feet, 6 inches at the Lincoln Meet No. 3.

COOPER SCOTT, ALBERTVILLE: Cleared 6 feet, 6 inches to win the high jump at the Don Heidon Invitational in Muscle Shoals.

WILL FAUGHT, ENTERPRISE: Clocked 10.77 seconds in the 100 meters at the Wildcat Invitational in Enterprise.

TYANTHONY ELMORE, JAG: Clocked 10.77 seconds in the 100 meters at the Wildcat Invitational in Enterprise.

NATE BRADSHAW, VESTAVIA HILLS: Clocked 21.86 seconds to finish second in the 200-meter dash at the Spain Park Classic.

DIMITRI HOWARD, CARVER-BIRMINGHAM: Won the 200 meters at the Lincoln Meet No. 3 with a. time of 21.86 seconds.

JALEN THOMAS, OPELIKA: Ran second in the 200 meters at the Prostate Invitational with a time of 21.91 seconds.
