Leeds Rolls Into Second Round with 1-0 Win Over Moody
LEEDS, AL – The Leeds Green Wave secured a 1-0 victory over rival Moody on Saturday, advancing to the second round of the playoffs. Pitcher Ryder Chambers delivered a dominant performance, allowing just one hit in a complete-game shutout.
Chambers struck out six batters and walked two, effectively silencing the Blue Devils’ lineup in the postseason Battle of the Bridge. The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning when Leeds capitalized on a critical opportunity.
After a leadoff groundout, Nash Jones worked a two-strike walk to get on base. Following a strikeout, Jones advanced to second on defensive interference. Graham Gulock then delivered the decisive hit, a two-out RBI single, driving Jones home to break the tie.
Gulock had a standout performance at the plate, going 2-for-2 with the game’s only RBI. Conner Nelson, Grayson Ford, Ryder Chambers, and William Thomas each added singles for Leeds, improving their record to 23-12.
Moody (15-18) managed just one hit, a leadoff single in the sixth inning by Cole Self from the No. 9 spot in the batting order. Pitcher Landon Cherry took the loss for the Blue Devils, giving up one earned run on six hits over six innings. Cherry recorded three strikeouts and three walks.
Leeds will face the Madison Academy Mustangs in the second round of the playoffs, aiming to continue their postseason run.
