HUNTSVILLE, AL – Montgomery Academy edged out Fairhope in a nail-biting contest, securing their place in the championship after two overtimes and a decisive shootout.

The match, played with intense back-and-forth action, ended regulation tied at 2-2. Fairhope (11-8-1), led by head coach Paul Stroud, struck first with a corner kick goal at the 11:22 mark for an early 1-0 lead. Montgomery Academy (18-5-2) responded before the half when Cade Segars converted a chest-level pass from Hampton Welch into an equalizing goal.

The Eagles, coached by Guilherme Mondaini, claimed the lead in the second half when Jacob Stubblefield launched a curling 22-yard strike into the net. However, Fairhope’s Patrick Burns answered back at 68:13, setting up the assist from Webb Bennett to level the score at 2-2.

With neither team able to break the tie in regulation, the game progressed into two scoreless overtime periods, bringing the outcome down to penalty shootouts.

During the first shootout round, both teams converted four of five attempts, forcing a second shootout phase. Montgomery Academy’s Hayes Lachney and Fairhope’s Grant Thompson each found the back of the net. Then, Welch stepped up once more for the Eagles, securing his goal. When Fairhope’s attempt fell short, Montgomery Academy celebrated their hard-fought victory and punched their ticket to the championship game against Oak Mountain.
