HUNTSVILLE, AL – Mountain Brook High School’s Lady Spartans secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Southside-Gadsden in the AHSAA Class 6A state semifinals Thursday, earning a spot in the 2025 state championship game.

The decisive goal came late in the match, with eighth-grade midfielder Abby Brown scoring at the 76:30 mark. Sophomore June Turner delivered the assist, breaking through Southside’s formidable defense. The Spartans (16-2-1), led by head coach Adam Johnson, showcased a strong defensive performance of their own, holding Southside (21-3-1) to just one shot on goal.

Goalkeeper Hannah Madox kept Southside in the game, registering seven saves and limiting Mountain Brook to only eight shots on target. However, the Spartans’ defense, anchored by an unwavering backline, ensured the win with a clean sheet.

Mountain Brook now sets its sights on their sixth state title, with prior championships claimed in 1994, 1995, 2008, 2013, and 2024. The team advances to face Briarwood Christian, who defeated Spanish Fort 4-1 in the other semifinal match. The championship will take place Saturday at 9 a.m. at Huntsville’s Loretta P.
