St. Luke’s Episcopal Advances to 4A Girls State Championship with 7-1 Victory Over Westminster-Oak Mountain
HUNTSVILLE, AL – Junior midfielder Kyle Hawarah delivered a standout performance, scoring four goals and adding an assist, as St. Luke’s Episcopal (16-6-0) defeated Westminster-Oak Mountain (11-10-1) 7-1 to secure a spot in the 4A state championship match against St. John Paul II Catholic on Friday. Seventh-grader Lexie Romano also contributed heavily with two goals.
Westminster-Oak Mountain struck first, with freshman forward Helen Harbert finding the back of the net at 11:55 in the first half, assisted by Ava Morrison, to give the Lady Knights a 1-0 lead. However, St. Luke’s quickly took control of the match, scoring six unanswered goals courtesy of Hawarah and Romano. The final goal of the game came at 68:36, as eighth-grader Hannah Eblen capitalized on an assist from senior Kenndie Olson.
Sofia Maghupoy and Mary Payton Flemming added assists to St. Luke’s relentless offensive effort, led by head coach Austin Beatty.
Defensively, Wildcats goalkeeper Ashlyn Turner tallied six saves, while Westminster-Oak Mountain’s goalkeeping duo, Lallie Parvin and Sadie Parvin, combined for 12 saves.
St. Luke’s now sets its sights on the state championship match, aiming to close their impressive postseason run with a blue map.
