Collinsville Advances to 1A/3A Boys State Soccer Final with 4-1 Win Over Susan Moore

HUNTSVILLE, AL – Collinsville senior midfielder Aaron Herrera lifted the Panthers to a decisive 4-1 victory over Susan Moore on Wednesday afternoon, securing a spot in the AHSAA Class 1A/3A Boys’ Soccer Finals. Herrera’s two late goals broke a defensive deadlock at John Hunt Park and sent Collinsville (21-3-1) to their upcoming championship matchup.

The Panthers will face Tuscaloosa Academy (21-5) in the state finals on Friday at 11:30 a.m. The Knights earned their place with a 5-3 semifinal victory over Providence Christian. Collinsville is seeking its second state soccer championship, having last claimed the title in 2013. This season’s squad exhibited the same grit and determination that defined their championship-winning team 10 years ago.

Collinsville struck first at 20:27 in the first half when Jan Segura netted the game’s opening goal. Susan Moore quickly responded with an equalizer from Franny Piceno just two minutes later, capitalizing on a defensive takeaway. The score remained tied 1-1 heading into the second half.

Jefferson Acevedo put Collinsville back in front at the 52:41 mark, converting an assist from Luis Felipe Miguel. Herrera then sealed the win with two critical goals late in the match, the first on a breakaway and the second on a defensive rebound.

Collinsville’s playoff momentum and impressive teamwork now set the stage for an exciting championship showdown with Tuscaloosa Academy.
