Veteran Adam Winegarden Takes over Albertville Football Program

ALBERTVILLE, AL – Veteran coach Adam Winegarden has been officially approved as the Albertville Aggies 41st head football coach.

Winegarden steps in for Bert Browne, after serving the past year as director of leadership and high school relations at Troy University under coach Gerad Parker. Browne exits after two seasons with an 0-20 record. Albertville, currently in the midst of a 28-game losing streak, last notched a win on August 26, 2022, with a 41-30 victory over county rival Boaz.

Winegarden brings a wealth of head coaching experience with stops across the state of Alabama. Most recently, he led Tuscaloosa County from 2021 to 2023, posting a 12-18 overall record. His Wildcats squads improved from 1-9 in his debut season to 11-9 over the next two years, competing in challenging 7A, Region 3.

His resume also includes head coaching stops at Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa (2010-2011), Fairhope (2012-2014), and Auburn (2015-2020). Winegarden led Auburn to the Class 7A title game in 2020, narrowly falling to powerhouse Thompson.  He holds a career mark of 117-48 as an Alabama head coach. He also spent time at Dalton High in Georgia from 2008-2009.

Through 15 seasons, Winegarden’s teams have reached the playoffs 11 times and secured four region titles.

Now, he faces the challenge of revitalizing an Aggies program that has gone 2-38 over the last 40 contests and has not won a playoff game since 2002.

Winegarden’s Albertville debut is set for August 21, when the Aggies travel to face rival Arab.
