Jordan Holmes Powers Pike Road to 21-14 Victory Over Prattville in Kickoff Classic

MONTGOMERY, AL – Pike Road senior Jordan Holmes delivered a spectacular two-way performance Thursday night, intercepting three passes and catching nine balls for 141 yards to lead the Patriots past Prattville 21-14 in the 19th AHSAA Kickoff Classic at Cramton Bowl.

Holmes sealed the victory with a 30-yard touchdown reception with 1:16 remaining, capping a remarkable individual effort that defined the season opener for both teams.

Patriots Strike First

Pike Road (1-0) set the tone early when Holmes picked off Prattville quarterback J.J. Williams at midfield and returned it 50 yards for the game’s opening touchdown with 5:20 left in the first quarter.

Quarterback Gunner Gibbs extended the Patriots’ lead in the second quarter, connecting with Elias Holtsclaw on a 26-yard scoring strike. Gibbs finished 20-of-30 for 197 yards, with Omari Smith contributing six catches for 61 yards.

Lions Roar Back

Prattville (0-1) struggled offensively early but found momentum through special teams excellence. Punter Paxton Genola averaged 48.6 yards on five punts, including a booming 68-yarder on the game’s first series.

The Lions broke through in the third quarter when Kavion Tyus blocked a Pike Road punt, setting up Williams’ 19-yard touchdown pass to Brayden Graham at the Patriots’ 19-yard line.

Williams tied the game 14-14 with 7:54 remaining on a 3-yard keeper, finishing with 157 passing yards and 54 rushing yards on 34 carries.

Clutch Time Heroics

With Pike Road facing third-and-11 at midfield and 2:31 on the clock, Gibbs found Holmes for a crucial 23-yard completion. Three plays later, Holmes hauled in the game-winner, breaking tackles at the 15-yard line before racing across the field for the decisive score.

Prattville mounted a final drive behind the spectacular catches of Deshawn Hall, who finished with five receptions for 86 yards. The Lions reached the Patriots’ 14-yard line, but a bad snap rolled back to the 32 as time expired.

Statistical Balance

Both teams produced nearly identical offensive outputs – Pike Road totaled 260 yards on 58 plays while Prattville managed 250 yards on 57 plays. Each squad recorded 16 first downs.

Defensively, Eric Townsend led Prattville with 10 tackles, while Rufus Boone paced Pike Road with 12 stops.

The 2025 Kickoff Classic continues Friday night at 7 p.m. when Fyffe battles Maplesville in the annual small-school showcase.
