Thompson Rolls Past Carver-Montgomery 37-6 in Season Opener

ALABASTER, AL – The Thompson Warriors launched their Class 7A championship title defense with a dominant 37-6 victory over Carver-Montgomery Thursday night at home. Despite a challenging first half that ended in a 6-6 tie, Thompson exploded in the second half to secure the convincing win.

The Warriors improved to 14-3 in pre-region matchups since 2015. Thompson faces a significant test next week against defending Georgia 6A champion Grayson on the road.

Head coach Mark Freeman viewed the team’s recovery from early struggles as a positive sign for the championship defense campaign.

First Half Struggles Define Early Action

Both teams reached the red zone on opening drives but failed to capitalize with turnovers ending each possession.

Carver quarterback Zion Crumpton showcased his mobility with multiple big gains before fumbling a 19-yard run at Thompson’s 12-yard line.

Thompson responded as quarterback Trent Seaborn connected on his first four attempts, including completions of 20 and 21 yards. However, penalties and turnovers stalled the Warriors’ momentum.

After reaching Carver’s 19-yard line, Thompson was penalized for holding. Carver defensive end Kalib Spivey then intercepted Seaborn on the following play.

Seaborn Responds with Explosive Touchdown

Following a three-and-out, Seaborn delivered a 57-yard touchdown strike to receiver Dedrick Kimbrough, giving Thompson a 6-0 advantage.

Crumpton, a Mississippi State commit, answered with a 16-yard touchdown run with 34 seconds remaining in the half, sending both teams to the locker room tied 6-6.

Second Half Explosion Seals Victory

Thompson dominated after halftime, looking like Alabama’s top-ranked team.

The Warriors needed just three plays to regain the lead on a 16-yard touchdown pass from Seaborn to Trey Knight. North Carolina commit Viliami Moala recovered a fumble two plays later.

Thompson capitalized with a five-play scoring drive capped by Urijah Casey’s 10-yard touchdown run. KJ Jackson extended the lead with a 6-yard touchdown run following another defensive stop.

Seaborn added his third touchdown on a 13-yard rushing score in the fourth quarter. Kicker Ethan Black converted a 29-yard field goal to complete the 31-point unanswered scoring streak.

Defensive Performance Highlights

Thompson’s defense forced four turnovers throughout the game. Moala and Oregon commit Cameron Pritchett each recovered fumbles, while Eli King and Damonte Tabb recorded interceptions.
