Carver vs. Pleasant Grove Football Game Cancelled Over Safety Concerns
BIRMINGHAM, AL — Carver High School canceled Thursday night’s non-region football matchup against Pleasant Grove, citing safety concerns shared in an official statement Thursday afternoon.
The announcement, posted to Carver’s Facebook page, did not specify the nature of the safety issue but stressed student and community welfare. “Due to matters beyond our control, tonight’s football game at Carver will not be held,” the school posted. “The safety of our scholars, families, and community is always our top priority, and as we cannot ensure that protection, the game must be cancelled.”
No makeup date for the contest has been scheduled.
Pleasant Grove, coming off a 57-7 loss to McAdory in their season opener, will return to the field next Friday, hosting Fairfield in their Class 4A, Region 4 opener. Carver turns its attention to next week’s Class 5A, Region 5 opener at John Carroll Catholic.
The cancellation occurs as both schools prepare for key region games with playoff implications. Pleasant Grove looks to rebound in region play, while Carver aims to start strong in its season debut. Both squads now focus on next week’s critical matchups as the regular season ramps up.
