Vestavia Hills Dominates Auburn 42-14 Behind Early Offensive Explosion

VESTAVIA HILLS, AL – The seventh ranked Vestavia Hills Rebels secured a commanding 42-14 upset victory over No. 3 Auburn High Thursday night at Buddy Anderson Field, improving to 2-0 on the season while dropping the Tigers to 1-1.

First Quarter Fireworks Set the Tone

The Rebels struck quickly, scoring two touchdowns within the game’s opening four minutes. Auburn High game plans went awry immediately when a high snap sailed over quarterback Cason Myers’ head on the third offensive play, resulting in a 22-yard loss.

Noah Boylan opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run, capping a methodical nine-play, 73-yard drive. Minutes later, quarterback Charlie Taaffe connected with Grayson Harper for a 33-yard touchdown pass, pushing the lead to 14-0.

Rebels Build Commanding Lead

Vestavia Hills football continued its offensive assault throughout the first half. Carson Purdy added touchdown runs of 2 and 8 yards, while Taaffe contributed both through the air and on the ground. The Rebels capitalized on two Auburn interceptions to build a 35-0 halftime advantage.

Harper emerged as the game’s standout receiver, hauling in six passes for 156 yards in the first half alone. The H-back, who lines up as a tight end, finished with nine catches for 214 yards and added a 7-yard rushing attempt.

Tigers Show Fight in Second Half

Auburn High responded after intermission with renewed energy. Jaylen Huff scored on a 5-yard run just before halftime, and the Tigers opened the second half with a 66-yard touchdown strike from Myers to Antonio Welch, cutting the deficit to 35-14.

However, the Rebels’ defense quickly reasserted control. Defensive standouts Haines Bridges recorded three sacks, while Parker Simpson, Daniel Richardson, and Walker Hogue each intercepted passes to shut down Auburn’s comeback hopes.
