Hoover Sails Past Spain Park 21-10 in Cross-Town Showdown

HOOVER, AL – The No. 4 ranked Hoover Buccaneers secured their season opener with a decisive 21-10 victory over cross-town rivals Spain Park Jaguars Friday night at Bob Finley Field. The win marked sweet revenge for Hoover after falling to the Jaguars in last year’s matchup.

Game-Deciding Interception Seals Victory

Hoover’s defensive back Jonah Winston delivered the game-clinching play, intercepting Spain Park quarterback Brock Bradley’s pass in the end zone during the final minute. The crucial pick preserved the Buccaneers’ 11-point advantage and secured their first win of the 2025 season.

Defensive Pressure Forces Turnovers

Hoover’s aggressive defense dominated throughout the contest, consistently pressuring Bradley and forcing rushed decisions. The Clemson-committed quarterback faced relentless pressure that resulted in multiple sacks and hurried throws.

With Spain Park driving for a potential go-ahead score, Caden Smith intercepted Bradley’s pass, giving Hoover renewed momentum. Six plays later, Buccaneers quarterback Kaleb Freeman connected with Anderson Clark for a 13-yard touchdown strike.

Red Zone Defense Proves Decisive

The Class 7A No. 4 Buccaneers (1-1) forced two crucial turnovers while preventing Spain Park from reaching the end zone on three separate red zone opportunities. This defensive dominance proved critical in the 11-point victory.

Early in the game with Hoover leading 7-0, Spain Park advanced to the Buccaneers’ 18-yard line but failed to capitalize. Justyn Hartley tackled a Jaguar runner for an 8-yard loss before pressuring Bradley into an incomplete pass. Spain Park’s fourth-down attempt also fell short.
