No. 4 Ranked Cherokee County Shuts Out Arab 25-0
CENTRE, AL – Cherokee County’s defense stifled the Arabian Knight offense completely Friday night, securing a commanding 25-0 shutout victory at Johnson Field. The defending Class 4A runner-up Warriors showcased their championship pedigree with a balanced attack on both sides of the ball.
Defensive Standouts Lead the Way
Jayquan Diamond anchored Cherokee County’s defensive effort with two crucial interceptions, helping limit Arab’s scoring opportunities throughout the contest. The Warriors’ defensive unit consistently pressured Arab’s offense, forcing multiple turnovers and maintaining field position advantages.
Ground Game Powers Warriors’ Offense
Cherokee County’s rushing attack dominated the line of scrimmage behind two standout performances:
Keyshawn Woods delivered the night’s most explosive plays, accumulating 166 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Woods broke free for scoring runs of 53 and 14 yards, showcasing his big-play ability.
Jayshawn Stroup provided consistent production with 97 yards and two touchdowns on just 10 attempts. Stroup found the end zone on runs covering 6 and 25 yards, demonstrating his versatility in short-yardage and open-field situations.
Arab Shows Fight Despite Defeat
The Knights battled throughout the contest, with Mason Ingram leading their ground attack. Ingram carried the load with 100 rushing yards on 25 attempts, while Jon Loden contributed 41 additional yards on the ground.
Arab’s defensive unit had bright spots despite the shutout loss. Zac Hallman paced the Knights with nine tackles, while Landon Ertl recorded six tackles and intercepted a Cherokee County pass, returning it 19 yards.
Region Play Begins Next Week
Both teams now shift focus to region competition as the regular season intensifies.
Cherokee County (1-1) opens Class 4A Region 6 play with a road test at Oneonta Friday night. The Warriors will look to build momentum from this shutout performance as they begin their quest to return to the Super 7.
Arab (1-1) travels to Sardis Friday to begin Class 5A Region 8 competition. The Knights will aim to bounce back from this setback and make a run toward their seventh consecutive playoff appearance.
