Boston Gibbs Delivers Record-Setting Performance to Earn AHSAA Football Spotlight
BIRMINGHAM, AL – Holly Pond senior Boston Gibbs captured this week’s AHSAA Football Spotlight after delivering an extraordinary performance in his team’s dominant 74-41 victory over Hanceville. The quarterback’s remarkable showing narrowly edged outstanding efforts from Randolph County’s Mo Winston and Fyffe’s Ryder Gipson.
Holly Pond’s Historic Night in Cullman County
Gibbs showcased his versatility throughout the contest, accumulating 280 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns on 17 carries. The multi-talented quarterback also completed 4-of-7 passes for 135 yards and one touchdown, while adding five successful two-point conversions on quarterback keepers and two more through the air.

The senior’s remarkable night included:
- 417 total offensive yards
- Eight total touchdowns (seven rushing, one passing)
- Seven successful two-point conversions
- 52 points scored individually
- 60 of Holly Pond’s 74 total points

Holly Pond’s Continued Offensive Development
Coach McDaniel has overseen significant offensive improvement since taking over the program. Through 12 games under his leadership, the Broncos have scored 398 points while allowing 396. Last season’s 4-6 record in competitive Class 3, Region 8 included averaging 32.4 points per game while yielding 33.0 points weekly.
The record-tying performance against Hanceville demonstrates the program’s upward trajectory under McDaniel’s guidance, with Gibbs emerging as a dynamic dual-threat quarterback capable of impacting games through multiple phases.
