Mars Hill Bible’s Two-Back Attack Rewrites School Record Books
FLORENCE, AL – The Mars Hill Panthers, ranked No. 1 in Class 3A, achieved a historic milestone Friday night, defeating Class 5A Russellville 47-19 behind unprecedented offensive performances from their senior backfield duo.
For the first time in Mars Hill Bible School history, two running backs surpassed 200 rushing yards in a single game. Senior Jaxon Penn and Hudson Higgins delivered the record-breaking performances that powered the Panthers to their second consecutive victory.
Penn dominated with 207 rushing yards on 18 carries, finding the end zone twice. His longest scoring run covered 67 yards, showcasing the explosive speed that has defined his senior campaign. The versatile athlete also contributed seven tackles and one interception on defense.
Higgins proved equally impressive, accumulating 216 yards and three touchdowns on just 11 carries. His efficiency reached elite levels with an 85-yard touchdown run highlighting his breakout performance. The senior safety matched Penn’s defensive production with seven tackles and an interception, which he returned 40 yards for his fourth touchdown of the night.
Panthers Build Momentum with Balanced Attack
The victory moves Mars Hill Bible to 2-0 on the season, establishing early momentum in what appears to be a promising campaign. The Panthers’ ability to dominate both sides of the ball against higher-classification competition demonstrates the program’s continued growth under head coach Darrell Higgins.
The offensive explosion combined 423 rushing yards between just two players, creating offensive balance that opposing defenses will struggle to contain. Meanwhile, the defensive contributions from both Penn and Higgins highlight the two-way capabilities that define successful high school football programs.
This record-setting performance positions the defending state champion Panthers as a team to watch throughout the Alabama high school football season, with their senior leaders establishing a foundation for sustained success.
