Moody Powers Past Jacksonville with 28 Unanswered Second Half Points

JACKSONVILLE, AL – The Moody Blue Devils, ranked No. 2 in Class 5A, overcame a halftime stalemate to secure a 42-21 victory over the Jacksonville Golden Eagles in a key Region 6 matchup.

The win improved head coach Jake Ganus’ Devils to 2-1 on the season while Jacksonville slips to 1-2.  

Coming out of the break with a 14-14 tie, the Blue Devils (2-1, 1-1) dominated the third quarter. The scoring surge began with a 1-yard touchdown run from Le’Kamren Meadows. Shortly after, Kaiden Mitchell extended the lead to 28-14 with a 23-yard interception return for a touchdown.

Quarterback Jake Lowery continued the offensive push, connecting with Jalijah Rutledge for a 38-yard touchdown pass and later finding Colin Eatmon for a 32-yard score, extending the visitor’s lead to 42-14.

Lowery finished the night with 219 yards through the air, completing 12 of his 18 attempts for two touchdowns and two interceptions. Meadows lead the Blue Devil rushing attack, gaining 68 yards and scoring two touchdowns on 11 carries. Rutledge was the top receiver with six grabs for 131 yards and one touchdown.

Next week, Moody will welcome the St. Clair County Saints (2-0) to Bill Morris Stadium, while Jacksonville returns to the Birmingham metro  to face the Center Point Eagles (1-2).
