Kaleb Carson’s First-Half Fireworks
HOMEWOOD, AL – Homewood Patriots Senior quarterback Kaleb Carson delivered an exceptional first-half performance, leading the Homewood Patriots to a decisive 49-7 victory over the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils in a Class 6A, Region 5 matchup Friday night. Carson threw for over 300 yards and four touchdowns, all before halftime, as Homewood established an insurmountable lead and cruised to the win. The victory keeps the Patriots’ record perfect on the season.
Homewood’s offense showcased its depth and explosive capability, accumulating 537 yards of total offense throughout the game. While the first quarter started slowly, the Patriots erupted late in the period and continued their onslaught into the second, effectively putting the game out of reach early.
Patriots Overcome Slow Start with Offensive Explosion
The game remained scoreless for most of the first quarter. With just 1:54 left on the clock, Kaleb Carson ignited the offense by connecting with Davis Griffin for a 56-yard touchdown pass, putting Homewood on the board first.
The Patriots’ momentum surged from there. Shortly after their initial score, Carson found Timon Felton for another long touchdown pass, this one covering 53 yards. The quick succession of scores stunned Mortimer Jordan. The offensive barrage continued when Jackson Chapleau took a direct snap in a wildcat formation and ran for a 30-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 21-0 as the first quarter concluded.
Second Quarter Seals the Deal
Homewood’s dominance was on full display in the second quarter, where they added another 28 points to their total. Carson continued his precise passing, connecting with Reid Goldstein for a 31-yard touchdown.
Chapleau found the end zone for a second time, capping a methodical six-minute, 73-yard drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. This extended the Patriots’ lead to an overwhelming 35-0 by halftime. The offensive efficiency and big-play ability in the first half left no doubt about the game’s outcome.
Reserves See Action in Second Half
With a commanding lead, Homewood utilized its second-team offense for the entire second half. The scoring continued as backup quarterback Jack Myers threw an 11-yard touchdown pass to Davis Litton, making the score 42-0.
Running back Micah Jones added the final points for the Patriots with a 1-yard touchdown run.
Mortimer Jordan avoided the shutout late in the game when quarterback Blaze Neely connected with Cason Bridges for a 17-yard touchdown pass, bringing the final score to 49-7.
