Sixth Ranked Good Hope Blanks Fultondale in 52-0 in Region Opener
FULTONDALE, AL – The Good Hope Raiders, ranked No. 6 in Class 4A, secured a commanding 52-0 shutout win over the Fultondale Wildcats in their region opener Friday night. The Raiders established an early lead and never looked back, showcasing a powerful performance on both offense and defense.
With the win the Raiders improve to 3-0 while the Wildcats are still searching for their first victory in the Jake Hogan era.
The visiting Raiders lit up the scoreboard, two minutes into the Class 4A, Region 5 opener, when Parker Johnson connected with Ayden Young for the first score of the contest. A successful extra point by Chase Prewett put the Raiders up 7-0.
The second quarter was plagued by penalties but saw an explosion of points for Good Hope. The momentum continued with a 15-yard touchdown run by Mason Drake. The defense quickly added to the lead when Carter Rutherford intercepted a Fultondale pass and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown.
Johnson followed up with a 60-yard touchdown pass to Rutherford, extending the score to 28-0. Shortly after, a defensive score by Ross Clark, who recovered a bad snap in the end zone, pushed the lead to 35-0. Johnson and Rutherford connected once more before the half, sending the Raiders into the locker room with a formidable 42-0 advantage.
After the break, Prewett added a 32-yard field goal. The game’s final points came in the fourth quarter when Kade Smith executed a spectacular 100-yard interception return for a touchdown, putting the game on ice.
Looking ahead, head coach Alan Scott’s undefeated Raiders (2-0) will welcome the winless Haleyville Lions to James W. Shabel Stadium next Friday night. The Fultondale Wildcats will look to notch their first victory with a road trip to Fayette County (2-1).
