Briarwood Christian Defeats Carver-Birmingham 36-22 in Region Showdown

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Briarwood Christian Lions secured a key Class 5A, Region 5 victory Friday night, defeating Carver-Birmingham 36-22 at Lion’s Pride Stadium. A balanced offensive strategy propelled the Lions to the win, improving their record to 2-2 on the season and 2-0 in region play. Carver slips to 1-1 (1-1).  

Briarwood established an early lead, jumping out to a 16-0 advantage. The initial scoring surge was powered by two short touchdown runs from sophomore Jamison Barnes. An Evan Ball field goal added to the Lions’ early momentum. Carve managed to cut the deficit to 16-6 at the break. 

In the third quarter, Barnes once again found the end zone, scoring the period’s only touchdown to extend the Lions’ lead to 22-6.

Head coach Matthew Forester’s Lions put the game on ice in the fourth quarter with a pair of touchdown passes from senior quarterback Charles Dedmon to Dane Whitehead. The first was a 7-yard strike, followed by a 9-yard score in the closing minutes. The Rams added a late touchdown and a two-point conversion to finalize the 36-22 score.

Dedmon delivered a strong performance, completing 18 of 27 pass attempts for 167 yards and a pair of scores. Barnes was a force on the ground, finishing with 68 rushing yards on 23 carries and three touchdowns. For the visitors, Rams signal caller Dejarvis Wade threw touchdown passes of 7, 46, and 65 yards.

Looking ahead, the Lions travel to Birmingham to take on the Wenonah Dragons (2-1) next Friday night.  Carver will welcome the 0-4 Hayden Wildcats to Norwood.
