IRONDALE, AL – The second-ranked Clay-Chalkville Cougars delivered a commanding performance Friday night, shutting out the Shades Valley Mounties 50-0 in a key Class 6A, Region 2 matchup. The decisive road win at the Frank Nix Athletic Complex keeps the Cougars’ record perfect at 4-0 for the season and 2-0 in region play. The loss drops the Mounties to a 1-3 overall record under first-year head coach George Bates.
Clay-Chalkville’s defense was the story of the night, completely stifling the Shades Valley offense. The Mounties were held to just 38 total yards and managed only a single first down in the contest. This marked the second shutout of the season for the stout Cougar defense, which has now allowed a mere 24 points through four games. The defensive front was relentless, recording five sacks, with Quinten Lewis leading the charge with two.
