Thompson Downs Oak Mountain 41-0

BIRMINGHAM, AL — The Defending State Champion Thompson Warriors delivered a commanding performance Friday night, defeating the Oak Mountain Eagles 41-0 in a Class 7A, Region 3 showdown at Herdmont Park.

The win improves head coach Mark Freeman’s Warriors to 3-1 on the season, 2-0 in region play.  Oak Mountain drops their second straight to slip to 2-2 (0-2).  

The second-ranked Warriors controlled the game from the start. The offense amassed 327 total yards, while the defense was relentless, holding the Oak Mountain offense to negative 16 yards for the game.

Thompson’s offense found the end zone on its first four possessions. The scoring barrage began with a 31-yard touchdown run by KJ Jackson. RJ Evans followed with a 2-yard scoring run before quarterback Trent Seaborn connected with Pryce Lewis for a 42-yard touchdown pass. Lewis wasn’t done, returning a punt 60 yards for another score to give the Warriors a 27-0 lead at halftime.

With a running clock implemented in the second half, the game concluded swiftly.

In the third quarter, Seaborn added a 3-yard rushing touchdown to extend the lead to 34-0. The drive was set up by two key pass completions: a 34-yarder to Dedrick Kimbrough and a 29-yard reception by Lewis.

The Warriors’ defense capped off the scoring when Trent McCorvey recovered an Oak Mountain fumble at the 2-yard line and returned it for a touchdown.

Seaborn finished the night 11-of-15 for 208 yards, with one passing and one rushing touchdown. The Thompson ground game contributed 119 yards on 23 carries.

Looking ahead, Thompson will host the Vestavia Hills Rebels (3-1, 1-1) next Friday in a key region contest. Oak Mountain will travel to Northport to take on the struggling Tuscaloosa County Wildcats (0-4).
