OXFORD, AL – The Mountain Brook Spartans secured a decisive 42-14 victory over the Oxford Yellow Jackets in a key Class 6A, Region 6 matchup Friday night at Lamar Field. Running back Lawson McKnight delivered a sensational performance, rushing for 312 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Spartans. The win moves Mountain Brook to a 3-2 season record and 1-1 in region play, while Oxford falls to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the region.

The game began with the Yellow Jackets striking first. Oxford quarterback Maddox Mims found the end zone on a 10-yard run in the opening quarter, giving the home team an early lead. However, the Spartans’ offense quickly found its rhythm in the second quarter.

McKnight Takes Over

Lawson McKnight began his career night by answering Oxford’s score with a 1-yard touchdown plunge to tie the game. He wasn’t finished, later breaking free for a 43-yard sprint to the end zone, giving Mountain Brook its first lead.
