Albertville Snaps 33 Game Losing Streak with 20-18 Victory Over Grissom
HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Albertville Aggies secured a hard-fought 20-18 victory over the Grissom Tigers Friday night at Joe Davis Stadium, snapping a 33-game losing streak. The crucial moment came midway through the fourth quarter when the Albertville defense stopped a critical two-point conversion attempt that would have tied the game.
The win marks the first for Albertville (1-5, 1-3) in Class 7A, Region 4 play and the first as an Aggie for head coach Adam Winegarden. The team’s last victory was a 41-30 win over the Boaz Pirates in August 2022. The Tigers, who are now on a four game losing skid, slip to 1-4, 0-4 in region play.
Albertville signal caller CJ Zuniga was instrumental in the win, scoring on touchdown runs of 1 and 7 yards. Zuniga also threw a 30-yard touchdown pass to Taliq Saint, which proved to be the game-winning score. Kicker Phillip Jahn successfully converted two of his three extra-point attempts for the Aggies.
For Grissom (1-4, 0-4), Jacob Rass scored all three of the Tigers’ touchdowns, including a 2-yard run with 5:28 remaining. However, Grissom failed to convert on all three of its two-point conversion attempts.
Looking ahead, Albertville will have a bye next week before welcoming the Huntsville Panthers (3-2, 1-2) to McCord Field on October 10th. Grissom will step out of region play next, hosting the undefeated Guntersville Wildcats (5-0, 3-0).
