John Carroll Catholic Routs Montevallo 47-7

BIRMINGHAM, AL – The John Carroll Catholic Cavaliers dominated the Montevallo Bulldogs with a decisive 47-7 victory on Friday night. Playing on their new home turf at Pat Sullivan Field, the Cavaliers secured their second win of the season with a powerful display of offensive firepower.

The non-region win moves Head Coach Will Mara’s Cavaliers to a 2-4 season record, while the Bulldogs now slip to 1-4. From the opening drive, John Carroll set the pace for the night and demonstrated control on both sides of the ball.

Cavaliers Establish Early Dominance

John Carroll’s offense ignited early in the high school football matchup. The team’s opening possession concluded with a touchdown run by Aubrey Coker from inside the five-yard line. Shortly after, senior quarterback Garrett Barnes scored on a keeper, extending the lead. A missed extra point brought the score to 13-0 as the first quarter ended.

Montevallo attempted to answer in the first quarter but was unable to convert, missing a field goal attempt and failing to put points on the board.

Cavs Extend Their Lead Before Halftime

The Cavaliers continued their offensive onslaught in the second quarter.

  • Barnes connected with Tucker Rice for a touchdown pass, pushing the lead to 20-0.
  • With just over six minutes left in the half, Coker found the end zone again for his second rushing touchdown of the game.
  • John Carroll entered halftime with a commanding 26-0 advantage over the Bulldogs.
Second Half Sees Continued Offensive Production

The momentum remained with John Carroll after the break. Debo Battle started the third quarter with another rushing touchdown, making it 33-0.

Montevallo managed to score its only points of the game late in the third quarter. A quarterback keeper finally put the Bulldogs on the scoreboard, bringing the score to 33-7.

However, the Cavaliers quickly responded. In the fourth quarter, Andy Everett scored on a 3-yard run, increasing the lead to 40-7. The final score of the night came from a precise touchdown pass from quarterback Harry White to Joseph Hounkpe, cementing the 47-7 final.
