No. 3 Hewitt-Trussville Cruises Past Pinson Valley 42-6
TRUSSVILLE, AL – The Hewitt-Trussville Huskies secured a decisive 42-6 victory over Pinson Valley in an eastern Jefferson County non-region contest Friday night at Huskey Field. The win keeps head coach Josh Floyd’s Huskies undefeated at 6-0 on the season, while the Class 6A Indians fall to 3-3 overall.
The Huskies established control early, building a 28-point lead by halftime. Special teams ignited the scoring, with CJ Davis returning the opening kickoff 93 yards for a touchdown. Later in the second quarter, Will Phillips executed a skillful 40-yard punt return for a touchdown, navigating the sideline for a 21-0 lead. It was the second punt return TD of his career.
Hewitt-Trussville’s offense also contributed to the first-half surge. James Kelly scored on a 21-yard run with just 58 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Freshman quarterback Jack Floyd then connected with Dylan Cope for a 15-yard touchdown pass with 2:08 left before the half, extending the lead to 28-0.
In the second half, Floyd added a 22-yard rushing touchdown. The Huskies’ final score came from Dylan Cope, who turned a backfield touch pass into an explosive 76-yard touchdown.
Pinson Valley’s only score of the game occurred on a 25-yard pass from Raymond Howard to RJ Addison.
Looking ahead, Hewitt-Trussville (6-0, 3-0) will host powerhouse Thompson (4-2, 3-0) in a critical game that could eventually decide the Region 3 champion. Pinson Valley (3-3, 2-1) has a bye week before returning to Class 6A, Region 6 action against the Mountain Brook Spartans (4-2, 1-1) at Willie Adams Stadium.
