Rush Propst Secures 300th Career Victory as 2A No. 3 Coosa Christian Defeats 6A Blount

GADSDEN, AL – Coosa Christian first-year coach Rush Propst officially achieved his 300th career victory Friday night. The Conquerors secured a 25-14 win over Blount at Phillip Ellen Stadium in Gadsden, marking their fourth consecutive victory this season.

The Conquerors, ranked No. 3 in Class 2A, improve to 4-2 on the season while Blount carries a 1-4 mark back to Mobile.

The Conquerors were led by a powerful rushing attack. Running back Kylen Johnson carried the ball 20 times for 158 yards and two touchdowns. His decisive fourth-quarter scores on runs of 33 and 31 yards helped seal the win against Blount (1-4). Coosa Christian amassed 221 rushing yards on 34 carries, winning the game despite completing only one pass. Mac Long added a 24-yard touchdown run, and Jorge Cantallan kicked a 36-yard field goal.

Propst, best known for winning five AHSAA state titles at Hoover, now holds an official career record of 300-119. He had previously reached the 300-win milestone while coaching at traditional south Georgia powerhouse Valdosta, but seven wins from the 2020 season were later forfeited.

His extensive high school football coaching career includes a 181-72 record in the AHSAA with stops at Ashville, Eufaula, Alba, Alma Bryant, Hoover, and Pell City before joining Coosa Christian. His time in Georgia from 2008-2018 at Colquitt County yielded two state titles, contributing to his 119-47 official record in the Peach State.

After a 1-9 season at Pell City in 2023, Propst joined the Coosa Christian staff in the off season and took over head coaching duties  in August following the suspension of Conquerors head coach Mark O’Bryant. Coosa started the season 0-2 but have since rattled off four consecutive victories.

Looking ahead, Coosa Christian will step back into Class 2A, Region 6 play with a road trip to Blount County to face the Cleveland Panthers (2-3, 1-1).  Blount will visit Spanish Fort to take on the 3-3, 2-2 Toros in a Class 6A, Region 1 showdown.
