St. Paul’s Episcopal Routs Faith Academy 51-7 Behind Fincher’s Four Touchdowns
MOBILE, AL – Hayden Fincher threw for 233 yards and four touchdowns, leading the 6A St. Paul’s Saints to a decisive 51-7 victory over the visiting 5A Faith Academy Rams Friday night at E.E. Delaney Stadium.
The victory over the cross-town Rams improves St. Paul’s to 4-1 on the season, 2-1 in Class 6A, Region 1 play. Faith slips to 1-4 overall, 1-2 in Class 5A, Region 1.
The scoring began in the first quarter when a high punt snap resulted in a safety, giving the Saints an early 2-0 lead. Faith Academy briefly took a 9-7 lead after Rams quarterback Eli Quinley connected with Kobe Hunt for an 80-yard touchdown pass.
However, St. Paul’s quickly regained control. In the first half, Tank Jones rushed for a 1-yard touchdown, and Fincher threw touchdown passes of 7 and 10 yards to Anthony Frasier. Tyshawn Sellers added a 16-yard rushing score, while Jimbo Boteler caught a 59-yard touchdown pass from Fincher.
The Saints continued their offensive push in the third quarter. Fincher found Boteler again for a 28-yard touchdown. The defense contributed to the scoring when Jones stripped a ball carrier and returned the fumble 16 yards for a touchdown. Turner Antoon successfully converted his seventh extra point of the night, finalizing the score at 51-7.
Looking ahead, St. Paul’s will return home to face Gulf Shores next Friday. Faith Academy, now 1-4, will host Williamson.
