Charlie Taafe Leads No. 7 Vestavia Hills to Region Win Over Prattville
VESTAVIA HILLS, AL – Vestavia Hills quarterback Charlie Taafe totaled five touchdowns as the Rebels earned their second straight Class 7A, Region 3 victory, defeating the Prattville Lions Friday night at Thompson Reynolds Stadium.
The Rebels, ranked No. 7 in Class 7A, (4-2, 2-2) and Lions (3-3, 2-2) entered halftime tied 21-21. Vestavia Hills responded with a dominant third quarter, scoring 21 unanswered points to take command.
Taafe completed 19 of 26 passes for 280 yards and three scores through the air. On the ground, he rushed 17 times for 64 yards and added two more touchdowns. Running back Carson Purdy tallied 145 rushing yards and two touchdowns on just nine carries to lead the Rebel rushing attack.
Receiver Luke Stubbs hauled in six catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. Zachary Laws, Braxton Hunt, and Will Ainsworth each contributed a receiving touchdown. Rebels back up signal caller Prince Lemaster accounted for one touchdown toss.
For Prattville, Will McKay threw two touchdown passes. Triston Blackmon rushed 23 times for 108 yards and scored twice. Brayden Graham and Deshawn Hall each caught a touchdown.
Looking ahead, Vestavia Hills travels to Herdmont Park next Friday night to take on the Oak Mountain Eagles (3-3, 1-3) next week. Head coach Bobby Carr’s Lions will look to rebound by welcoming the previously No. 1 ranked Hewitt-Trussville Huskies (6-1, 3-1) to Stanley Jensen Stadium.
