Hoover Defense Powers No. 10 Bucs to 48-21 Region 3 Victory Over Oak Mountain
BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Hoover Buccaneer defense scored three touchdowns to propel the Class 7A No. 10 Bucs to a decisive 48-21 road win over the Oak Mountain Eagles in a Class 7A, Region 3 matchup on Friday night at Herdmont Park.
The win improves the Bucs to 4-3 overall, 2-2 in Class 7A, Region 3 play. Oak Mountain slips to 3-3, 1-3 in the region.
Head coach Chip English’s Bucs (4-3, 2-2) secured their third consecutive victory. The defense set the tone early, with Trey Sanders returning a fumble 5 yards for a score and Joe Johnson adding a 12-yard fumble return touchdown, both in the first quarter. Justyn Hartley contributed another defensive score in the fourth quarter with a 40-yard fumble return.
The Hoover offense also found the end zone multiple times. JR Mosely punched in a 1-yard touchdown run, Kaleb Freeman scored from 7 yards out, CJ Crowley ran for a 12-yard touchdown, and Jonah Winson added a 7-yard rushing score.
For the Eagles (3-3, 1-3), Mary Myricks scored on a 10-yard run. Quarterback Charlie Vacarella connected with Patton Knight for an 8-yard touchdown pass and also scored on a 14-yard run.
Looking ahead, the Hoover Bucs will welcome the winless Tuscaloosa County Wildcats (0-6, 0-4) to the Hoover Met next week. Oak Mountain will return to action Thursday night with a road trip to Thompson Reynolds Stadium to take on the No. 6 Vestavia Hills Rebels (4-2, 2-2).
