No. 6 Good Hope Dominates Curry 48-8 to Remain Undefeated
GOOD HOPE, AL – The Good Hope Raiders, ranked No. 6 in Class 4A, continued their perfect season Friday night, securing a decisive 48-8 homecoming victory over region foe Curry. The win elevates head coach Alan Scott’s Raiders to 6-0 on the season and 4-0 in Class 4A, Region 4 play, while the Yellow Jackets fall to 2-5 overall.
Good Hope established control early in the first quarter. After the Raider defense stopped Curry on a fourth-and-one, running back Carter Rutherford broke free for a 30-yard touchdown run, giving his team a 6-0 lead. Following another defensive stop, quarterback Parker Johnson connected with Tucker Keef for a 9-yard touchdown pass, extending the lead to 13-0 before the end of the quarter.
The Raiders’ momentum carried into the second quarter. Mason Drake scored on a 5-yard run, pushing the score to 20-0. Later in the period, after two long touchdown plays were called back due to penalties, Johnson delivered an electrifying 95-yard touchdown run to make it 27-0. Just before halftime, Rutherford added another score with a 71-yard rushing touchdown, sending Good Hope into the locker room with a commanding 34-0 lead.
With a running clock in the second half, the Raiders continued to find the end zone. On the first play of the third quarter, Karson Hollis ran for a 60-yard touchdown. Hunter Miller later contributed a 19-yard touchdown run, increasing the lead to 48-0. Curry managed to score in the final quarter, preventing the shutout, but the outcome was never in doubt.
Good Hope now faces a major road test next week against the undefeated Hamilton Aggies (7-0, 4-0) in a critical region showdown. Curry will return to Travis Hudson Stadium to face the Fayette County Tigers (5-2, 4-0).
