Tenth Ranked Homewood Rolls Past Gardendale 42-9 in Class 6A, Region 5 Showdown

GARDENDALE, AL – The Homewood Patriots, ranked No. 10 in Class 6A, secured a decisive 42-9 victory over the Gardendale Rockets in a key Class 6A, Region 5 football matchup Friday night at Driver Stadium. Rebounding from last week’s heartbreaking last second loss to rival Mountain Brook, the Patriots improve to 6-1 overall and a perfect 4-0 in region play. The young Gardendale squad slips to 1-6 on the season, 0-4 in the region.

Homewood established control early, building a 21-9 lead by halftime. The offense was efficient on the ground and through the air, finishing the game with 428 total yards. The Patriots’ ground game was particularly effective, amassing 216 rushing yards.

Running back Davis Griffin was a key performer for Homewood, carrying the ball 11 times for 78 yards and scoring three touchdowns. The offense also saw a significant contribution from Tomon Felton, who broke free for a 71-yard run on his only carry and added 71 yards on four receptions.

Quarterback Kaleb Carson commanded the Patriots’ passing attack, completing 17 of 27 passes for 195 yards. His top target was David Walden, who pulled in six catches for 69 yards.

The Homewood defense was relentless in the second half, shutting out the Gardendale Rockets and allowing the offense to pull away.

With the win, Homewood maintains the top spot in the region standings. The Patriots have a bye week before traveling to Birmingham to take on the defending state champion Parker Thundering Herd in another crucial region game on October 17. Head Coach Eric Firestone’s Rockets (1-6, 0-4) will look to bounce back when they travel to face arch rival Mortimer Jordan next Friday night.
