No. 2 Coosa Christian Rolls Past No. 3 Tuscaloosa Academy in Battle of Class 2A Powers
TUSCALOOSA, AL – The second-ranked Coosa Christian Conquerors capped their regular season with a decisive 56-21 road win over the No. 3 Tuscaloosa Academy Knights. Both teams entered the matchup having already secured their respective region championships.
With the victory, Coosa Christian improves to 8-2 on the season, rattling off eight straight victories after starting the season with back-to-back losses. Tuscaloosa Academy slips to 7-2 on the year.
Head coach Rush Propst’s Conquerors established control early, leading 14-6 after the first quarter and extending it to 28-15 by halftime. They entered the final quarter with a commanding 49-21 lead.
Coosa Christian’s offense was overpowering, achieving 22 first downs and converting on 5 of 7 third-down attempts. The Conquerer ground game was particularly effective, rushing 48 times for an impressive 456 yards and eight touchdowns. Quarterback Mac Long contributed by completing 2 of 3 passes for 31 yards.
Running back Kylen Johnson led the visitors on the ground, rushing for 298 yards and four scores on 21 carries. Long added 49 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries, while Carson Reed scored once on eight attempts for 39 yards. Jorge Cantellano successfully converted 6 of 7 extra-point attempts.
Looking ahead, Coosa Christian has a bye week before hosting the Isabella Mustangs in the first round of the Class 2A playoffs on November 7. Tuscaloosa Academy will travel to Fairhope to face the Class 3A, Region 1 champion Bayside Academy Admirals before starting their own playoff journey at home against the Susan Moore Bulldogs the following week.
