Thompson Claims Region Title in 29-15 Win Over Prattville

Warriors Secure Class 7A, Region 3 Crown with Fourth-Quarter Surge

PRATTVILLE, AL – The defending state champion and 4th ranked Thompson Warriors battled through four quarters of intense football to defeat the Prattville Lions 29-15, on the road, at Stanley-Jensen Stadium on Friday night. The hard-fought victory secured the Class 7A, Region 3 title for Thompson and officially eliminated the Lions from playoff contention.

Head coach Mark Freeman’s Warriors will host the Carver-Montgomery Wolverines (5-4, 4-3) who finished as the four seed in Region 2.

The game was a defensive struggle for long stretches, but a late offensive push and three key interceptions in the second half allowed the Warriors to overcome a third-quarter deficit and seal the win.

A Tightly Contested First Half

Prattville set the tone early, using a successful fake punt to extend their opening drive. The bold call set the Lions up at Thompson’s 13-yard line, and they found the end zone on the next play to take a quick 7-0 lead.

Both defenses stiffened after the initial score. The Warriors missed a 34-yard field goal attempt on their ensuing possession, and the Lions were later stopped on a critical fourth-down attempt. Thompson capitalized on the good field position following a Prattville punt. Quarterback Trent Seaborn, who recently committed to the University of Alabama, connected with Pryce Lewis for a touchdown, and the extra point gave the Warriors their first lead of the game at 14-7. Thompson carried this advantage into halftime after a last-second pass play came up just short of the end zone as time expired.

Lions Roar Back Before Warriors Take Control

The momentum shifted back to the home team to start the second half. After forcing a Thompson punt, Prattville’s offense came to life. The Lions converted on a crucial fourth down, which led to a 2-yard touchdown run by Tristin Blackmon. A successful two-point conversion pass from Will McKay to Donavan Brown put Prattville back in front, 15-14, with 8:12 remaining in the third quarter.

The game turned into a defensive stalemate. Following Seaborn’s lone interception, the Lions’ offense was unable to capitalize and had to punt. The teams traded punts again before Thompson’s offense broke the impasse. Starting with excellent field position at the Prattville 31, the Warriors drove downfield. Urijah Casey capped the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run, his second of the night. A successful two-point conversion gave Thompson a 22-15 lead with 10:42 left in the game.

Warriors Defense Seals the Deal

Prattville looked poised to answer immediately. A strong kick return gave the Lions possession near midfield, and they drove inside the Thompson 10-yard line. However, the drive was abruptly ended when Thompson’s Terry Robinson intercepted a pass from McKay in the end zone.

While the ensuing Warrior drive ended in a punt, the defense stepped up once more. Kevin Davis picked off another pass, giving Thompson the ball back near midfield. This time, the offense made it count. Running back RJ Evans broke free for a 40-yard touchdown run, extending the lead to 29-15 and putting the game out of reach. A final interception by Antoine James Jr. on Prattville’s last possession allowed the Warriors to run out the clock and celebrate their region title.
