Moody Rolls Past Corner 49-21 in Playoff Opener

MOODY, AL – The third-ranked Moody Blue Devils secured a decisive 49-21 first-round victory over the Corner Yellow Jackets, starting their trek to a return trip to the Super 7 with an explosive offensive performance Friday night at a packed Bill Morris Stadium.

Head coach Jake Ganus’ Blue Devils established control early, storming to a 28-0 lead in the first quarter. The scoring began when Le’Kamren Meadows broke free for an 81-yard touchdown run. Quarterback Jake Lowery then took command, connecting with Jo Dozier for two long touchdown passes of 48 and 45 yards. A 6-yard touchdown pass to Jalijah Rutledge capped the initial scoring outburst.

Corner fought back before halftime, cutting the deficit to 28-14. Quarterback Keaton Coffee found Rhett Cofer for two touchdown passes of 7 and 6 yards.

However, the Devils put the game away in the third quarter. Lowery threw his fourth touchdown pass, a 36-yarder to Aubrey Walker. The defense added to the lead when Jagger Ludolf returned an interception 70 yards for a touchdown, extending the score to 42-14.

The teams exchanged final scores, with Coffee hitting Cofer for a 53-yard touchdown for Corner. Moody’s Kevin James concluded the scoring with a 27-yard touchdown run.

Lowery had an impressive night for Moody (9-2), completing 24 of 28 passes for four touchdowns. Meadows led the ground game with 134 yards and a score on 10 carries. Rutledge was the top receiver with 8 catches for 126 yards and one touchdown.

For Corner (8-3), Spencer Unruh rushed for 169 yards on 17 carries. Cofer was the primary receiving target, finishing with 74 yards and three touchdowns on 5 catches.

Looking ahead, the Blue Devils will travel north to Priceville to face the 8-3 Bulldogs in the second round of the AHSAA Class 5A postseason.  Priceville shocked the Guntersville Wildcats Thursday night with a 24-21 come-from-behind overtime victory.
