Thompson Downs Carver-Montgomery 31-7 to Open the Class 7A Postseason

ALABASTER, AL – The defending state champion Thompson Warriors kicked off their Class 7A title defense with a decisive 31-7 first-round playoff victory over Carver-Montgomery on Friday night in Alabaster. The third-ranked Warriors combined a high-powered offense with an aggressive, turnover-forcing defense to secure the win.

The Warriors’ defense was formidable, holding Carver to just 89 total yards for the game. Thompson’s secondary intercepted five passes, with Damonte Tabb accounting for three of them, bringing his season total to seven. The Wolverines’ only points came from a 68-yard fumble return by Camare Jackson in the third quarter.

Offensively, Thompson amassed 482 total yards. Quarterback Trent Seaborn was sharp, completing 24 of his 34 pass attempts for 328 yards and two touchdowns.

Thompson established control early, building a 17-0 lead by halftime. The opening drive concluded with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Seaborn to Dedrick Kimbrough. A 17-yard touchdown run from KJ Jackson and a 25-yard field goal by Ethan Black extended the lead.

After Carver’s defensive touchdown cut the lead to 17-7 late in the third quarter, Thompson’s offense answered with a 65-yard scoring drive. The series was powered by the ground game and capped by a 7-yard touchdown run from Urijah Casey, making the score 24-7.

Seaborn sealed the victory with a 28-yard touchdown pass to Pryce Lewis.

Lewis headlined the Warrior receiving corps with five catches for 141 yards. Darion Moseley added six grabs for 100 yards, and Kimbrough had five catches for 47 yards. On the ground, Jackson led Thompson with 72 yards on eight carries, while Casey contributed 71 yards on 11 attempts.

With the win, Thompson (8-3) advances to round two and will welcome the Mary G. Montgomery Vikings to Warrior Stadium next Friday night.  Carver, who began their season with a 5-1 start dropped their last five games to cap their 2025 campaign at 5-5.
