Phil Phillips Dismissed as Oneonta Head Football Coach After 8 Seasons
ONEONTA, AL – Phil Phillips’ tenure as the head football coach for the Oneonta Redskins has come to an end. Oneonta City Schools confirmed that Phillips is no longer employed in the position.
During his eight seasons at the helm of the Redskins program, Phillips achieved a 63-33 overall record including a 33-19 mark in region play and a region title in 2021. He guided the Redskins to the AHSAA state playoffs in his first six consecutive seasons.
The highlight of his tenure was the 2021 season, where the team advanced to the Class 4A state championship game, ultimately falling to Vigor. Phillips also led Oneonta to the state semifinals in both 2018 and 2022.
Oneonta capped their 2025 campaign at 5-5, winning four of their last six games. However, the Redskins have not qualified for the postseason in the last two seasons.
