Clay-Chalkville Defeats Gadsden City 44-7 to Remain Unbeaten, Reaches 6A Quarterfinals
CLAY, AL – The Clay-Chalkville Cougars secured a decisive 44-7 victory over the Gadsden City Titans on Friday night, advancing in the second round of the AHSAA Class 6A football playoffs. With this win, the undefeated Cougars (12-0) move on to the state quarterfinals.
The Cougars’ powerful ground game was on full display. Running back Josh Woods led the rushing attack with 133 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Quarterback Aaron Frye was also a major threat on the ground, adding 115 rushing yards and two scores of his own.
Through the air, Frye completed 10 of his 15 passes for 119 yards. His performance included a 15-yard touchdown pass to receiver Jacari Johnson.
Head coach Stuart Floyd’s Cougar defense continued to impress, holding an opponent to single digits for the sixth time this year. The Corgars have scored 573 points through 12 games while holding opponents to 132.
Clay-Chalkville will now prepare to host the Homewood Patriots (11-1), who are ridding a six game winning streak, next week at Jerry Hood Field in the Class 6A quarterfinals.
