Coosa Christian Surges Past Lexington 49-16, Advances to Class 2A Quarterfinals

GADSDEN, AL – The Coosa Christian Conquerors secured their 10th consecutive victory Friday night, defeating the Lexington Golden Bears 49-16 in the second round of the AHSAA Class 2A playoffs. With the win, Head Coach Rush Propst’s No. 2 ranked Conquerors improve to 10-2 on the season. The loss ends the Golden Bears’ season at 8-4.

After a tight first quarter, Coosa Christian’s offense exploded for 42 points in the second quarter to take command of the game. The Conquerors amassed 358 yards of total offense.

Quarterback Mac Long led the charge, completing 10-of-13 passes for 230 yards and three touchdowns. Joseph East was a force on the ground, gaining 101 yards and a touchdown on only two carries.

Multi-purpose threat Kylen Johnson contributed both rushing and receiving, with six carries for 49 yards and a score, complemented by four catches for 84 yards and another touchdown. LJ Mostella was the top receiver with 115 yards and a touchdown on three receptions, while Greyson Malone added two catches for 21 yards and a score. Kicker Jorge Cantellano was perfect on the night, converting all seven extra-point attempts.

Coosa Christian now prepares to host the No. 9 Tuscaloosa Academy Knights next Friday night at Phillip Ellen Stadium in the Class 2A quarterfinals. The Conquerors previously defeated the Knights 56-21 during their week nine regular-season matchup.
