Fairview Advances to State Quarterfinals with 28-13 Victory Over Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, AL – The undefeated Fairview Aggies secured their spot in the state quarterfinals Friday night, defeating the Jacksonville Golden Eagles 28-13 in a hard-fought Class 5A second round playoff game. After holding a narrow 7-0 lead at halftime, the Aggies’ offense exploded in the second half to clinch the victory and advance to the third round for only the third time in school history.

The game began with both teams struggling to find their footing. Fairview lost a fumble on its first possession, but the defense forced a turnover to regain the ball moments later. The Aggies’ offense then found its rhythm, with running back Jake Harper breaking free for a 40-yard run on a crucial fourth down. Harper capped the drive with a 10-yard touchdown run, and Kolt Redding’s extra point gave Fairview a 7-0 lead late in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Golden Eagles mounted a significant drive, moving the ball to the Aggies’ 1-yard line. However, the Fairview defense held strong, pushing the Eagles back and blocking a 25-yard field goal attempt to preserve their lead. The score remained 7-0 at halftime.

Jacksonville opened the second half with a methodical scoring drive, tying the game at 7-7. The game remained deadlocked until the fourth quarter when the Fairview offense came alive.

Early in the final period, Harper gained 24 yards on an option play, and a roughing the kicker penalty later in the drive gave the Aggies a first down at the 4-yard line. Harper capitalized on the opportunity, scoring his second touchdown to put Fairview ahead 14-7 with eight minutes left to play.

On the ensuing possession, Fairview’s Jace Stevens intercepted a pass, giving the offense excellent field position. Harper quickly found the end zone again for his third touchdown of the night, extending the lead to 21-7.

The visitors fought back, scoring a quick touchdown to cut the deficit to 21-13. However, the Aggies blocked the extra point, maintaining an eight-point advantage. Fairview recovered the onside kick, and on a key third down, quarterback Kolt Redding connected with Stevens for a 50-yard touchdown pass, making the score 28-13 with just over two minutes remaining.

Stevens sealed the win with his second interception of the night, allowing the Fairview Aggies to run out the clock.

With the win, Fairview improves to a perfect 12-0 season. The Aggies will now welcome the Scottsboro Wildcats (8-4) to Dafford Smith Stadium next Friday in the Class 5A quarterfinals. An Aggies victory would set a new school record for the most wins in a single season.
