Maplesville Shuts Out Southern Choctaw 42-0 Punching Their Ticket to the 1A Semifinals
MAPLESVILLE, AL – The Maplesville Red Devils delivered a commanding performance in the Class 1A quarterfinals Friday night, defeating the Southern Choctaw Indians 42-0 at George Walker Jr. Stadium. With the victory, the second-ranked Red Devils advance to the Class 1A quarterfinals for the second consecutive season.
This win marks Maplesville’s seventh consecutive shutout and their tenth of the season. Head coach Brad Abbott’s squad improved to a perfect 13-0 on the season. The Red Devils have now outscored opponents by a staggering 610-27 margin through 13 games.
Maplesville’s defense stifled the Southern Choctaw attack all night. The Indians managed only 51 total yards of offense, with just 25 yards coming on the ground over 24 carries. Southern Choctaw ends their season with a 9-4 record.
The Red Devils seized control early, jumping to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. They continued to apply pressure, extending their advantage to 35-0 by halftime.
Offensively, Maplesville relied on a balanced rushing attack. Three different players found the end zone twice. Quarterback Pearce Yeargan opened the scoring with a 59-yard sprint. He finished with four carries for 56 yards and two touchdowns. Through the air, Yeargan completed 6-of-10 passes for 127 yards.
Running back Nehemiah McCary added 68 yards on 10 carries with two scores. Jediah Works contributed 66 yards on 12 attempts, also tallying two touchdowns. In the receiving game, Aidan Abbott hauled in two catches for 61 yards, while Ethan Rencher added a 44-yard reception.
On the defensive side, Von Woods and Luke Gray led the way with 5.5 tackles each and shared a sack. Colby Mitchell recorded 3.5 tackles. The secondary created turnovers, with Draden Brown intercepting two passes and Cade Smith adding a third interception.
Looking ahead, the Red Devils will host the unbeaten Leroy Bears next Friday night in the Class 1A Semifinals. Leroy enters the contest fresh off a 60-38 quarterfinal win over McKenzie. The winner of this clash between undefeated powerhouses will earn a trip to the Super 7 State Championships at Protective Stadium in Birmingham.
