Moody Downs Briarwood Christian 51-21 in Class 5A Quarterfinals

MOODY, AL – The Moody Blue Devils secured a decisive victory Friday night at Bill Morris Stadium, defeating the Briarwood Christian Lions 51-21 in the Class 5A quarterfinals. This win propels head coach Jake Ganus’s squad into the state semifinals and extends their current winning streak to seven games.

Moody improved to an 11-2 overall record with the victory, while Briarwood Christian’s season concluded at 7-6 under head coach Matthew Forester. The Blue Devils displayed a balanced offensive attack and a resilient defense to secure their spot in the next round of the AHSAA playoffs.

Offensive Leaders Fuel the Victory

The Blue Devils’ offense proved difficult to stop, generating big plays on the ground and through the air. Two key players, Le’Kamren Meadows and Jake Lowery, combined for nearly 370 yards of total offense and accounted for six touchdowns.

Meadows Dominates on the Ground

Senior running back and Western Kentucky commitment Le’Kamren Meadows anchored the rushing attack. He carried the ball nine times for 158 yards, finding the end zone three times. His scoring runs covered distances of 40, 24, and 2 yards, consistently breaking through the Lions’ defense.

Lowery Efficient Through the Air

While Meadows controlled the ground game, junior quarterback Jake Lowery delivered a stellar passing performance. Lowery completed 17 of 23 pass attempts for 211 yards and three touchdowns. He connected on scoring strikes of 56, 28, and 24 yards, keeping the Briarwood defense off balance throughout the contest.

Defensive Stands Change Momentum

The game remained competitive through the first half before Moody’s defense seized control. Midway through the second quarter, with the Blue Devils holding a narrow 21-14 lead, the defensive unit stopped Briarwood inside their own 10-yard line. This crucial stand forced a punt and allowed the offense to extend the lead to two scores.

Briarwood responded, cutting the deficit to 28-21, but the Moody defense tightened once again. Pinning the Lions inside their own 10-yard line for a second time, the Blue Devils capitalized on a special teams mistake. A bad snap on a Briarwood punt resulted in a safety, adding two points to the board and shifting the momentum permanently in Moody’s favor.

Despite the loss, Briarwood found some success on the ground. Eli Thompson led the Lions’ effort with 11 carries for 122 yards and two touchdowns.

Semifinal Matchup Set: Moody vs. Scottsboro

With the quarterfinal victory secured, the Moody Blue Devils now look toward the Class 5A semifinals. The team will travel next Friday night to face the Scottsboro Wildcats.

Scottsboro (9-4) earned their place in the semifinals by defeating the previously undefeated Fairview Aggies 16-14. This upcoming matchup will determine which team advances to the AHSAA Super 7 Championships.
