Saraland Overpowers Pike Road 56-32 to Advance to 6A Semifinals
PIKE ROAD, AL – Saraland quarterback Jamison Roberts and receiver Deshawn Spencer delivered a dominant offensive performance Friday, leading the No. 2 ranked Spartans to a 56-32 victory over the No. 7 Pike Road Patriots in the AHSAA Class 6A quarterfinals.
The Region 2 champion Patriots season comes to a close at 10-3, capping their third consecutive season with 10 or more wins.
Roberts recorded a career-high 353 passing yards, completing 20 of 24 attempts. He connected with Spencer for four touchdowns through the air, part of an explosive night for the receiver. Spencer finished the game with five total touchdowns, securing nine catches for 212 yards. He also added 101 yards and a 43-yard touchdown on nine rushing attempts.
The Spartans established control early, building a 28-0 lead by halftime. Saraland’s offense generated 617 total yards in the contest. While the Patriots (10-3) mounted a second-half rally, the Spartans’ initial surge proved decisive. Roberts contributed to the ground game with 94 yards on 12 carries, including touchdown runs of one and two yards.
With the victory, head coach Jeff Kelly’s Spartans (13-0) secure their fourth consecutive trip to the Class 6A semifinals. Saraland will now host the Benjamin Russell Wildcats (12-1), who enter the matchup on a 12-game winning streak. The winner will earn a spot in the Super 7 state championship at Protective Stadium in Birmingham.
